I always bring a backpack with me to the airport. It is much easier to carry a backpack on my back rather than carry a purse plus my luggage. My backpack is by Michael Kors - Link  - I love the Michael Kors brand, and I find that their purses are very durable. I am headed to California for a week to spend time with my grandmother. We are also going to Disney Land, which I am very excited for.       I always use a backpack as my purse to carry on the plane. It is a lot easier to travel with a backpack instead of a heavy purse. You are allowed a carry on and a purse (at least in the USA), and also you might need the room on your return trip if you buy souvenirs that are fragile or expensive. You can add a couple of things from your carry-on to your backpack, and that frees up extra room in your carry on.
